Keeping with our new years resolution Greg and I headed out on Saturday for our monthly hike. This time we went to Cape George:
We took the scenic route from New Glasgow |
We actually took a wrong turn and ended up at Melmerby Beach, we stopped for a peek...it was a really windy and wavy day!
We finally made it to Cape George, before we got to the trail head (it required one turn around as the sign was pretty inconspicuous) we stopped at the Cape George Lighthouse. It was SUPER windy here:
On a clear day I think you would be able to see Cape Breton |
Poor o'l trees, they've seen better days |
Teeny tiny pinecones! |
Check out those cliffs, erosion to the max! |
The rest of my photos were taken with my phone, I was a bit lazy and didn't want to take my big camera out of my back pack - womp womp! So they aren't of the best quality, but they get the point across.
Despite the really warm weather last week there was quite a bit of snow. Because of the snow we saw bear, deer, fox and moose tracks - lots of wildlife at Cape George.
This is a seemingly innocent part of the trail widened out into a shoe-sucking mud field! It was one of those times where running from rock to rock was the best idea, until the rocks started sinking into the mud.
This resulted in super muddy boots:
Pileated wood pecker-ed |
We were headed to the bubbling spring |
The bubbles look much less impressive in pictures, but it was really neat release of air from the bottom of the 'spring' |
Double checking where we're going |
Despite the many snowy patches there was a lot of green! |
Greg's camera batteries died so I decided to take a photo of myself to pick up the slack |
Neat ice in a stream |
Potentially creepy historical display, I think someone forgot to take down the pieces before winter came |
The wash basins from Wash Brook |
A tree stole Greg's hat while trying to force his way through the trees |
A hilariously unnecessarily placed guide rail |
It's not a hike unless I fall down into a ravine... well almost fall into the ravine. Thankfully Greg saved me yet again! |
Great looking tree stump |
A wonderful dog wandered up to us when we got back to our car, he was AWESOME! |
Look at that face, I wanted to take him home! |
We headed to Antigonish after our hike for a look around town and dinner. Greg has been bragging about the library since we moved to New Glasgow so it was our first stop on our visit. I didn't take pictures inside (it's BEAUTIFUL and so tech-ed out!) but here's a great piece of art outside. The artist compiled all of the words the community submitted for what they wanted the library to be:
Delightful name for a shop |
Yummy indian food, well deserved after our hike |
More food and the sign for the restaurant |
The "tree stealing Greg's hat" picture is killing me.
