This week I went to two movies - this frequency is particularly rare and I was very happy that both movies were great.

Last Saturday we went to see Life Of Pi. I started to read the book but had to return it to the library before I finished...and never got around to getting it again. Despite not reading the book (or because of it) I really enjoyed the movie:



On Thursday night we went to The Intouchables, a movie put on by the local film society, and it was excellent! It was hilarious, not too sad and the main character was wonderful:

Allergy Hilarity

While I am a fan of the musical Les Miserables I am not a fan of allergies. I am lactose intolerant and a number of other foods (which I haven't been able to pin down) seem to wreak havoc on my system.  

This video combines Les Mis and the ridiculousness of food allergies in a super funny way. It's a take on the musical's One Day More and I need to thank Weighty Matters for bringing it to my attention:

And despite this being a spoof of Les Mis, I couldn't help but get excited for the movie version that comes out this Christmas:

Christmas Movie (& Music) Madness

Well, not really madness, but it seemed to make a better post title.

Like many other people Greg and I indulge in a variety of excellent classic Christmas movies and also a bit of the less than classic movies.

We are saving the best (Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Family Christmas, A Christmas Story) for this week, but so far these are the gems we've taken in:

The next movie, Fred Claus, reminded me that when actors have children they end up in bizarre movies.  Vince Vaughn, well that's not too much of a stretch, but Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacy, Kathy Bates, Rachel Weisz, the list goes on!

It really wasn't too bad of a movie, other than the parts that were created so kids could have a dance or laugh at quick moving clips of Fred and Santa flying through the main street in the North Pole strung together. 

One of the best parts of this movie was that I learned about a new to me Christmas song, Christmas Wrapping. It's from the 80's but I don't think I'd heard of it until Fred Claus.

Back to Christmas Wrapping, in searching for a video for the song I came across two covers, one makes sense, the other just seems strange. I'll let you decide which is which:

Oh yea, and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges was in the movie as an elf, a DJ elf - of course! And he has a Christmas rap: Ludacrismas, you can't resist:

The Muppets

Have you watched the Muppet movie? Well if you haven't I highly recommend, particularly on Tuesday nights where admission is only $6

I tried to find a clip from the movie to show you the BEST Muppet song ever, I really couldn't stop laughing. But I couldn't so here's the audio portion, it's still really funny but when combined with the video AND knowing the other types of roles that Jason Segel has played it's even better.

Another interesting video (actually 2!) that were brought to my attention from Open Culture.

Kirby Ferguson has put together half of a 4 part series called Everything is a Remix. The first focusing on music, mainly Led Zepplin and the second on movies, mainly Star Wars.

Both are really interesting and not surprising when he points out the obvious:

New Things!

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have another no doubt hilarious (judging from the trailer and past projects) movie on the way.

You might remember their wonderful films: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I'm not going to ramble on about what their new movie, Paul, is about. That's what YouTube clips are for:



Also in new things...Jenn Grant has a new album called Honeymoon Punch.

The first single from the album is called Getcha Good and it comes along with the most adorable dance video I've ever watched. There are a number of zumba-inspired moves I recognize and then there are children in snow suits dancing their butts off - cute!
