Sweater Time!

With what feels like a huge drop in temperature comes sweaters. I've swapped my shorts for sweaters in my closet and now I have a hankering for creating my own sweater.

Here are a few I've spied that I would like to try my hand at, the first seems complicated while the second seems more straightforward. I'll no doubt try the second one first:

Socks!

I did it! I finally finished this pair of socks after far, far too long.

I followed the pattern and instructions at Silver Sock Class (I used the pattern for "one sock on four double pointed needles), and if you're interested in knitting socks  I recommend it. It was my first pair and the instructions (with lots of pictures) were really easy and straightforward to follow.

For my birthday last year Greg gave me a ball of wool to start another pair of socks. So now, with one under my belt I am getting around to the second pair. Hopefully this project doesn't take me quite as long.

Homemade Socks

I finally did it! I made a sock!

It doesn't seem like a big accomplishment but I've been at it for a long time, starting in the fall and not finishing it up until last week. I took a break from knitting my own socks to make a slew of Christmas presents, so now I'm back on the socks.

I followed the pattern on Silver's Sock Class website and it was pretty straightforward and I only got frustrated with the whole heel turning business. I had a hard time visualizing just how it was all going to come together, but it worked out in the end.

Almost there!

I was worried that it was going to be too big around the ankle as it looked that way as I knit along. But I should not have questioned the pattern as it fits perfectly!

Hopefully it doesn't take me as long to knit the second sock.

Knitting: Check!

I finally finished the sweater I've been working on for awhile, the button band gave me some trouble so after a couple of attempts on both sides I finally sorted it out - hooray! It seems that New Glasgow lacks in wooden buttons, so I had to go with plastic brown buttons:

I also tried my hand at making mittens for the first time. They turned out pretty well, I had to try a couple of times at making the thumbs, but again it worked out, hooray! These are for a 4 year old and I'm going to connect them with a knitted string, hopefully to increase their longevity:

Knitting Project Update

Unemployment is great for knitting projects!

Looking like a shrug

Now like a hilarious knitted muscle shirt

And now a one-armed sweater!

Just about finished. There's the other arm of course and then the button band!

Knitting Project

One last post for such a post-filled Sunday. I wanted to share my current knitting project:

It's coming together but now for the potentially tricky part, I'll be updating this project with pictures!

Knit Knit

Another knitting project, I lost my favourite purple hat last year so now I'm trying to replace it with a handmade version. So far so good:

I'm using circular needles for the first time and it's working out well. The picture above makes the wool look more blue but it's purple:

I'm going to keep knitting and try to make a slouchy hat. I was inspire by these hats:
