The Muppets

Have you watched the Muppet movie? Well if you haven't I highly recommend, particularly on Tuesday nights where admission is only $6

I tried to find a clip from the movie to show you the BEST Muppet song ever, I really couldn't stop laughing. But I couldn't so here's the audio portion, it's still really funny but when combined with the video AND knowing the other types of roles that Jason Segel has played it's even better.

Here is still from the song, it's Jason Segal (Gary) with the Muppet version of himself:

"a Muppet of a man" could you get a more hilarious line from a Muppet movie!?!

Pinterest

I have been holding off on sharing my Pinterest account on my blog because of my ever expanding wedding board...it might have generated a few questions. But now that the engagement cat is out of the bag I can happily share it with you.

If you haven't heard of Pinterest it's basically a way to 'collect' pictures of things you like from any website (except Facebook) and organize it into categories (boards) you see fit.

Here's a screenshot of my account:

Check out Pinterest, you will be sucked into the million and one things you can make, wear, save up for and more.

The Time We Got Engaged

This past weekend was particularly awesome, not only did I get to see some great live music at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival (post to come about that), hang out with great friends and enjoy beautiful fall sweater-weather but Greg and I got engaged.

Hooray!!

On Saturday morning Greg gave me beautiful flowers, a wonderful ring and a mimosa and pancake filled breakfast.

We had been working with a jeweler (Jeneca Klausen) from Saint John for the past few months to design the ring so I wasn't super duper surprised because I knew what the ring was going to look like and that a proposal was in my near future but I was very, very, very happy with how everything went.

Info on the ring: the band is silver, the setting is gold and the stone is a rough cut diamond. The band is pretty thick because of my less than dainty fingers and also I'm not a dainty person.

Since we've been planning this for awhile now we've been able to set a date for next September, near the end of the month. Hooray for fall sweater-weather weddings!

Thank you to everyone who's passed along their congratulations so far. We're pretty darn excited!!!

You can see more of Jeneca's work here.

End of Summer: SHOES!

I've been hearing a lot of boo-hoo it's the end of summer comments in the last few weeks. With September upon us, waking up to temperatures around 13 degrees (today), and sporting jeans instead of my trusty shorts I can appreciate the seemingly sudden change of pace with the transition into fall. With the actual first day of fall a little more than 2 weeks away there is time to get some last minute awesome official summer-ing in!

One great thing about the change of season is the end of season sale. This goes from clothes to shoes to crafting goods and more. Those three are just areas that I'm familiar with.

That being the case I lucked out on an WICKED sale, I'm talking 70% off, last week. I had been eying up a pair of shoes for as long as I can remember being in Saint John at Manchester Shoes. Seeing a number of sales racks in front on a trip to the neighboring library I couldn't help myself.

The shoes had been in other colours, much too bright for me to pull off so I was extra pumped to see the grey pair, in my size, now for only $35. You can't even get a 'good' pair of shoes from Payless for that cheap!

Here are the grey pair and it's much more colourful friends:

Proud of my purchase (even on my unemployed paying back student debt budget), I am excited to wear them into fall even though they are a spring/summer shoe. Can you imagine them with fun tights? I'm all set in that department so I am good to go.

Now while these shoes were on sale I have fallen in love with a boot that most definitely will not be going on sale. I spied them as a wish list item from a blog I follow: Julie Ann Art. I have to agree, these Frye boots make it on my wish list:

Maybe sometime next spring THEY will be 70% off and in my size...I can shoe dream!

I actually follow this blog in my reader so it was exciting to see it in craftgawker as well, there's a DIY tutorial to show you how to make them. I'm planning on attempting to make one when I am reunited with my crafting gear!

Happy Birthday!

David Suzuki!

Source

He turns 75 years young today and the CBC is celebrating it by having a special on his program The Nature of Things (which is 50 years young - amazing!). The show is on tonight so you know what I'll be busy doing!

You can check out the David Suzuki Foundation website and read all kinds of neat things and even send a happy birthday message his way!

Speaking of busy, that is what I have been. I started my second internship on March 14 and it seems my posts have stopped entirely with all of the busy I have been.

I have a new and hopefully reasonable goal. To have one post a week. I anticipate a weekend posting time but we'll see. Greg and I went to the Irving Nature Park (not an oxymoron) last weekend so I should really get my butt in gear and get those photos up. That will be a project for the weekend!

Today marks the start of my March Break! I actually haven't had one of these since grade 12 since we had February break during undergrad - so it's a flashback-esque treat. Greg and I are going to Halifax this weekend so I'm sure I'll have some goodies or two to post about when we get back on Monday.

Hooray!

Lots of Lovin'

I found Catbird from a post on Darling Dexter. Catbird has a ton of beautiful jewelery which I just like to look at.

These rings have letters on them (and come in silver as well). I'm particularly fond of the ring with the heart. They are do delicate!

I really like the rough-ness of this ring, also the circle part makes me think it would be a good fit in Captain Planet's Planeteers:

I found this awhile back and forgot to post about it. I really like the anchor in the bottom right corner of the purse. The designer has other colours of this purse but I like this blue-grey the best:

Lots of beautiful paper art, I really like the display of this picture. Very fitting background given the text:

Internet Clicking

After finishing all of my assignments for the term with several hours to spare (I don't know how that happened) I browsed the interwebs, GUILT FREE!

One of my favorite places to take a brain break is CraftGawker. There are so many wonderful works of art, craft and photography.

Yesterday I stumbled across a new site and I'm in lurve!

It's called Darling Dexter, by a very creative woman. So far I've scoped out:
  • cute clothing (some of which are handmade)
  • beautiful photos of life in general
  • links to similar blogs/sites for further browsing

A sister site called Oh, Darling, run with her husband, who she called the hub:
  • both are wonderful photographers
  • they focus a lot on weddings
  • but there are other categories: lifestyle, music

I'm particularly taken with the simple layout and clean lines of both blogs.

Love!

This is one of my favorite houses in Halifax, actually, ever.

I think it has a lot to do with the cute old lady that lives here, does it make me creepy that I know that? Anyway, I've stared at this house while walking particularly slow several times, trying to take it all in.

I couldn't stand in front and snap pictures all morning but I did suck it up and backtrack a little just to get this picture:

Highlights of this sharp house are: the covered veranda with lots of windows, the flower box under the other window you can see, it's kept VERY tidy, the paint is in tact, the garden looks like someone is out there everyday clearing up, on the veranda there are hooks on the wall and a place where a sun hat (I'm assuming for gardening) is kept with other gardening tools.

That last one might make me appear to be borderline stalker, but I'm not - I promise!

Anyway, those are a few of the things I enjoy about this house. There are more but I will stop before I'm arrested the next time I walk by.
