Last night the Joel Plaskett Emergency played a lovely (as per usual) set at the Olympic Hall. We were pretty far back in the crowd but it sounded great - the view was less than awesome but that didn't stop the amount of singing along and dancing that I did.
Judging by this picture it really doesn't look like anyone is on stage, but I promise there were!

Halifax Finds
Last weekend Greg and I went to Halifax to watch the AUS Men's 6 Basketball final. While I'm not always clear on the rules of basketball I learned a lot and watched some excellent athletes.
On the way to the Metro Centre one evening I stumbled across this:
I hope this person has been reunited with their most favoritest jacket!

Halifax Visit
Last weekend Greg and I visited Halifax for some family fun and to go to the Mother Mother show. It was a lovely coincidence that our friends were throwing a Movember chili lunch fundraiser at their house. So not only did we get to see some pals we had a great meal and supported a worthy cause:
I also spotted some interesting signs on our visit, I have no explanation for the sign on the right but as for the one on the left it was in front of the North Face store on Barrington Street as Petraeus was supposed to be in town for the weekend - well placed, it got us to stop:
Last but not least, treats of Halifax! Since I seem to have a gluten sensitivity I can't drink beer anymore. While this is very sad at least I can enjoy something that Propeller produces, rootbeer! And on the left is a snap from the Mother Mother show - they AND their lights were very, very entertaining and impressive.

Halifax Pop Explosion
Greg and I took in a great show last weekend at the Halifax Pop Explosion, the headliners were Of Montreal and they put on an excellently theatrical show!
We got there to see two bands before Of Montreal took the stage: The Bicycles (left), Sheer Agony (right)
Of Montreal (below)! You can't appreciate the craziness of this show, but it included a wrestling match, crowd surfing spidermen, balloons and more:

Pub Night
On Friday evening Greg and I ventured to Halifax to pick up my altered wedding dress (4 inches were taken from each hip, I really have no hips) and caught up with some great friends at the Hart & Thistle pub down on the waterfront.
It was lovely.
If you haven't been to the Hart & Thistle I highly recommend it. Not only do they have a great menu (I had fish and chips and it was heavenly) but they brew their own beer and I have yet to find something I dislike. I'm not even an IPA person but their IPA was yummy (I had a sip or two of Greg's). My preference is for darker beers so I enjoyed their interestingly named Sweet Baby Jesus Porter.

Summer Sonic 2012
I headed to Halifax on Friday to check out one of three days of the Summer Sonic festival.
I had some observations:
I had some observations:
- There were not many people in attendance (at least on Friday)
- There was an excellent choice of eats from food vendors at reasonable prices
- The music was excellent
Upsides to a small crowd:
- No lines for anything
- You are easily spotted by friends who didn't know you'd be attending
I was happy to be scared to death by two friends I hadn't seen in awhile and we shared a giant bag of kettle corn - it was lovely.
The line up Friday evening was: Bahamas, Father John Misty, K'naan and Stars. Each act was great, I was impressed with K'naan's band and Stars played their first show of their current tour. I was quite taken with their new tunes and happily handed over $15 at the merch table for their new album, The North. I highly recommend it.
I didn't take many pictures, the first is from my vantage point sitting on the hill when Bahamas was on stage. The second is of K'naan and his band:
I had two opportunities to eat downtown while in Halifax for my short visit. On Friday I went to Hamachi House for a really (4:45PM) early dinner. I was really excited about it since I couldn't remember that last time I had sushi. On Saturday afternoon I grabbed lunch, the biggest sandwich on a bagel at the Paperchase:
I will make another recommendation: eat at both of these places!!

Summer Wedding #1
*Click the photo on the left for MORE photos!*
Greg and I headed to Halifax this past weekend for a wedding on Friday and a show on Saturday night at the Seahorse. We made it to the wedding, but due to the extreme awesomeness of the wedding we slept much of Saturday and didn't make it to the show. Womp womp. When did this type of behaviour become acceptable?
I wasn't as snap happy as I typically am this past weekend, but here are a few from the wedding:
We met up with friends for lunch on Saturday and went to the Smokehouse on Argyle for meat, meat and more meat. I had a pulled pork sandwich that came with lots of pork, some veggies and french fries on the burger...I drew the line at the french fries.
After sleeping for about 3 hours on Saturday afternoon we pulled ourselves together enough to go out to eat, we went to Curry Village and it was AMAZING! Sadly, this amount of physical exertion resulted in a huge wave of sleepiness. After walking around a bit we decided to bail on the show and went to bed. Again, when did this change in my life happen again?

Bluenose 2012 In Full
*Click the photo for the full post, with lots of pictures*
Greg and I spent this past weekend in Halifax and participated in the Bluenose run. Here are an overwhelming amount of pictures from the weekend, and I will be posting another soon.
I finished the 10km in 59:18, my personal best time. Greg kicked butt and finished the half marathon (21.1km) in 1:43.

Now to thoroughly gross you out, here are my feet after the run. I have been working on breaking in a new pair of sneakers but thought it unwise to use them for the race. This might have been a poor decision given what my old sneakers did to my feet - womp womp.
Now that I've grossed you out with my feet I'm going to talk about food, sounds appropriate. To celebrate our victorious Bluenose involvement Greg and I joined his family for dinner at the Hamachi Steak House, it was delicious!

I ran my third Bluenose race this year, and finished the 10km with my personal best of 59:18. I have lots and lots to share about the run and my lovely long weekend, but this picture and my time will just have to do for now.

Bizarre new food truck on Dal's campus |
Ye old stomping grounds |
Greg made these fiber-filled cookies, and I took away all of their good nature with a large bowl of lactose free ice cream |
