Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have another no doubt hilarious (judging from the trailer and past projects) movie on the way.
You might remember their wonderful films: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
I'm not going to ramble on about what their new movie, Paul, is about. That's what YouTube clips are for:
Also in new things...Jenn Grant has a new album called Honeymoon Punch.
The first single from the album is called Getcha Good and it comes along with the most adorable dance video I've ever watched. There are a number of zumba-inspired moves I recognize and then there are children in snow suits dancing their butts off - cute!
But I'm rambling, why type when you can see it for youself:
You can listen to a number of songs from this album from Jenn Grant's CBC Radio 3 site. Just click here. As a poor student Radio 3 is my medium to new albums until I can save my pennies and actually buy them!

Snow!
It seems that a snow storm is currently beating the crap out of the Maritimes. My twitter feed is covered with updates (yes, despite living in Fredericton I keep close tabs on Halifax) about universities and malls closing, miserable road conditions, etc.
I hope precautions are being taken, and people aren't risking their lives in attempts of making it to that 5:30 spin class (or something less ambitious) in hopes of putting their winter tires to the test or just trying to beat the weather. I don't ever see that working.
Here is a view from my window at about 4:30PM:
Fredericton is supposed to get 5-10cm, so it looks like I'm in for a night of wearing sweatpants, drinking hot chocolate and getting caught up on readings. The fact that it's snowy out there hasn't impacted my Wednesday night plans at all - phew.
After writing this post I think it's rather fitting as a Canadian to have a post entirely dedicated to a weather update.
BE WEATHER SAFE!

Pole Poster of the Day
Julie Doiron is coming to town, hopefully with less crazy rants and terrible attempts to play at least one of her songs. I have been to two of her shows now, one solo and the other a part of Daniel, Fred and Julie. As part of a group she's fantastic, but as a lone musician it was quite the experience. Given my in ability to hold too harsh a judgment against someone, I'm not going to hold one show against her performance abilities.
Regardless of all of this it's a sharp looking poster:

Wreaths
I have a soft spot for wreaths and they are always out in full force at Christmas.
While walking around both Saint John and Fredericton over my break I took a few photos of various wreaths.
Maybe one day I'll have a proper door to hang an awesome wreath on:

Debbie Travis Watch Out!
One of my projects over the holidays was to strip the super outdated wallpaper from Greg's kitchen and paint the walls with anything other than the blue that was also there - we decided on yellow.
That seems like a cheery kitchen-esque colour - right? Right.
You might recall the pictures I posted before of the blue and rooster filled kitchen. If you don't I willbe kind and refresh your memory:
So the first thing to do was strip the wallpaper which I thought would only take a day. I was wrong, and it took about 3 days and my arm was KILLING me by the end.
My only other experience with removing wallpaper was when my family first moved to Nova Scotia. The house we bought was covered with hideous (and copious amounts) of wallpaper. I thought I would be helpful and give my parents a hand to remove it. It turns out that peeling wallpaper is boring, tedious and not something suited for my 11 year-old self.
That quickly ended my first experience with wallpaper removal.
If you can see, you'll notice the strange brown spot above the door. When I was peeling the wallpaper, parts of the wall, or what I thought was the wall, was actually coming off with the paper! It turns out that years and years ago there was linoleum flooring (or something that looked like linoleum flooring) on the wall and then covered up with a few layers of paint once someone realized that was a horrible idea. So this lovely site emerged and after my panic subsided I realized that it wasn't a big deal and I could 'fix it' with some wall putty - phew:
Some parts of this far wall were covered in plaster that wasn't sanded down so again, I was surprised whenendlessly picking peeling off the wall paper to stumble across that. In this light it really shows you how crappy the wall had been 'tended' to previously.
In addition to giving myself more than a day to remove wallpaper, I have learned that putting it up can cover a whole lot of crap (holes, cracks, old gross linoleum flooring).
Once all of the paper was down and the glue had been scrubbed clean from the walls it was on to the primer! Since we were painting the blue walls yellow it was necessary to use primer:
After putting on two coats of primer and spending a week on this project I was more than thrilled to be able to put on the actual paint!
You'll notice that it is very similar to the primer, so we slacked a little and only put on one coat. Anything is better than what was there initially, right? Right.
We said good-bye to the blue vinyl blinds (that were never installed properly it turns out) and popped up a tab curtain - thanks Giant Tiger!
This is my new favorite spot in Greg's apartment. I can use the internets while being warmed up from the heater right next to me AND listen to tunes from the iPod doc by my head.
Also this is a great example of not buying your own furniture - the table came from my patio set (I'm currently sitting on one of the two chairs that came with the set at my apartment in Fredericton) and the chair came from Greg's parents. It's like thrifting without even setting foot in a thrift store!
Well that ends the adventures in 'renovating' a kitchen. It's amazing how much brighter a small space looks with a lighter (and new!) coat of paint and MUCH less wallpaper!
